The Postcard Collector's Prayer

Post card collecting is my hobby,
And I shall not be bored.
It maketh me to do the research on far away places,
It causeth me to correspond with strange people.
It keepeth me alert.

It leadeth me into new areas of knowledge
For curiosity's sake.
Yea, though I am housebound by miserable weather,
I will fear no boredom, for my cards are with me.
Their beauty and their history enchant me.

They show me a pleasant escape
From the tensions of every day life.
They fill my shelves with albums.
And my checking account runneth lower.

Surely, their beauty and information shall surround me
All the days of my life,
And I will be listed in the ranks of the deltiologists
Forever.
The Club was started on January 19, 1985 by Helen Angell in South Dennis. The meeting of 7 people was in her living room. The next meeting was moved to a bank in South Yarmouth where the members stayed until membership outgrew the space. Everyone brought their own post cards and they looked at each others cards and traded cards.

The final move from the 80's was to Carleton Hall on Old Bass River Rd. in Dennis, where 28 years later the club still meets. There are now 250 members all over the country with one member in England. There are around 50 people who attend the monthly meetings, from all over the cape.

We are the only club in New England that has monthly speakers at the meetings. We have 6-10 dealers selling cards from 6:30-8:00. Some of the members bring home made cookies and cakes for all to munch on. The Club supplies coffee and juice. After a short business meeting we have a speaker for 45 minutes until 9PM. Yearly, we have a show and sale on the last Saturday of September. Then in December we forget about postcards and have our Christmas gathering with a pot luck dinner. All members bring food and we just socialize.
